Biography
Stephen Kaung was a Chinese Christian Bible teacher who worked with Watchman Nee before moving to the United States in 1952. His ministry helped carry teaching from that Chinese Christian setting into English-speaking churches and conferences.[1] [2]
His work included speaking, writing, translating, and publishing. The surviving conference recordings document sustained teaching on Christian life, the church, and the kingdom of God. They provide direct access to the content of his ministry.[3]
Kaung's importance cannot be reduced to his connection with a better-known coworker. He continued teaching over many decades and became a distinct voice for listeners who encountered his own messages.[1] [3]
A memorial published in July 2022 reports his death on 2 July, citing information from his friend Dana Congdon. Contemporary sermon archives also identify 2022 as the end of his life. This corrects drafts that leave his death unknown.[1] [2]
Exact claims about his age should be checked against a primary personal record before being treated as certain. The account here keeps to the documented ministry and death endpoint. His recorded teaching remains the most useful source for understanding what he actually communicated.[1] [2] [3]
