Biography

Wesley L. Duewel was born in Missouri in 1916 and devoted his working life to Christian mission. He spent almost twenty-five years in India before serving as president of One Mission Society from 1969 to 1982. His work joined missionary leadership with a persistent call to prayer.[1]

In India he participated in Christian literature and Bible-distribution work and helped establish the Evangelical Fellowship of India. Later he served in several evangelical mission and church organisations. These responsibilities placed him in the practical work of training, supporting, and coordinating Christian ministry.[1]

Duewel wrote on prayer, the Holy Spirit, revival, and evangelism. His obituary describes these writings as an expression of the same concern that shaped his missionary service. He also continued ordinary church work, including teaching a senior adult Sunday-school class.[1]

He died on 5 March 2016 at ninety-nine. His first wife, Elizabeth, had died after sixty-eight years of marriage; he was survived by his later wife, Hilda, and his children and descendants. His legacy is found in the mission organisations he served and in writings that directed readers toward prayer as part of the work of ministry.[1]
