Biography

Thomas Lloyd Malone was born in 1915 and became known as a Baptist pastor and educator in Pontiac, Michigan. His early life included hardship in the rural South. His biographer places that background within the account of his eventual preparation for ministry.[1] [2]

In 1942 he founded Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pontiac. He served as its pastor for more than fifty years and became closely associated with the independent Baptist movement. His ministry also included the founding and leadership of Midwestern Baptist College.[2]

Malone's work joined local church preaching with the training of future ministers. The biography written by Joyce Vick in 2003 also records the partnership of his wife, Joyce. These institutional and family dimensions are important alongside accounts of his public preaching.[1]

He died on 7 January 2007 at ninety-one. Recorded sermons and the published biography remain accessible sources for examining his ministry. Claims about the size or worldwide effect of that work should be attributed to the organisations and writers that make them, rather than repeated as if they were independently measured.[2] [3]

His legacy rests in a long pastorate, a training institution, and the ministers and congregations influenced by those years of service.[1] [2]
