Biography
Joy Dawson was born in 1926 and became a Christian teacher whose work strongly influenced Youth With A Mission. Her teaching addressed intercessory prayer, obedience, the character of God, and the responsibilities of Christian discipleship.[1]
Her public ministry extended beyond one congregation or country. YWAM's memorial describes her as an important contributor to the movement's formative teaching. That is the organisation's firsthand assessment of her influence, rather than a measurement of every person affected by her work.[1]
Dawson also wrote books, including Intercession: Thrilling and Fulfilling, Intimate Friendship with God, and Influencing Children to Become World Changers. Her final book, My Journey with Jesus, appeared in 2021. The writing preserves a substantial part of the ministry alongside memories of her speaking.[1]
She was married to Jim Dawson for sixty-five years until his death in 2013. He also served within YWAM, and their partnership belongs within the account of her life.[1]
Joy Dawson died on 21 July 2022 at ninety-six. Her biography is therefore a completed account, correcting older descriptions that leave her life open-ended. Her surviving books provide identifiable sources for her teaching on prayer.[1]
